For the past decade, Siri has been an active and dedicated researcher in Fundamentals of Care, leading multiple research projects and educational initiatives focused on strengthening the use and implementation of Fundamentals of Care in both educational and clinical settings. Her work integrates research on Fundamentals of Care, Missed Nursing Care, clinical decision making, and the transition of newly graduated nurses into clinical practice, providing a comprehensive perspective on quality care and professional development in nursing.

Emma Jelstrup Balkin is a cultural and medical anthropologist, who studies care and ageing in northern Denmark. She holds a Master of research in anthropology from Macquarie University in Sydney and a PhD from Aalborg University, where she was a Marie Curie scholar under the InnovateDignity program, which examined dignity in aged care across Europe. Her PhD explored the existential well-being of oldest old nursing home residents, finding that their care dependence was not so much a hindrance for well-being but rather a modality that opened up for new possibilities of well-being through relationality.

She is currently in a postdoc role in the Department of Clinical Nursing at Aalborg University Hospital. Through multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork across care sectors, she studies the care trajectories of older persons living with frailty and multimorbidity. She is particularly interested in the ways that ageism shapes care and moral understandings of what constitutes a good life in old age.

Katri Manninen has experience as nurse, educator, and researcher within the fields of infectious diseases and medical education. She works as a university nurse at the department of infectious diseases at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. Her work includes clinical work as a nurse, work educational issues and nursing development. She is also a member of a regional expert group in infectious diseases.

Katri’s passion is learning in clinical context from the perspectives of students, supervisors, and patients. She is member of a team that established a Clinical Education Ward at the department of infectious diseases and currently pedagogical leader for the ward. Katri has also established and been program director for a specialist nursing program in infectious diseases at Swedish Red Cross University. Katri supervises students in clinical practice, gives lectures on infectious diseases and nursing and on learning in clinical context. She is a pedagogical advisor in several national and international educational projects. 

Katri´s research at Karolinska Instututet is about clinical education and learning in clinical practice. She has explored how experience of authenticity can affect student learning, supervisors´ pedagogical role and patient involvement in a clinical context with an explicit pedagogical framework. Her ongoing research is about learning clinical reasoning, supervisors’ role in clinical education, learning ethics in clinical practice, peer-learning in clinical practice and simulation in nursing education. She is a member of several research networks and also supervisor for two doctoral students.
